Our Work
The Biodiversity Group works on the species and places most people overlook — from field research and rediscovery expeditions to open tools and datasets the whole conservation community can use.
The Species Black List
A register of 2,372 vertebrate species the IUCN Red List records as Data Deficient — plus 36 never assessed at all — ranked by how narrowly restricted the published record says they are.
The species no one has looked at closely enough to know whether they are already disappearing.
Connect & Conserve
We are mapping the entire world of conservation — who is working where, on what, and where the gaps are. It is how we show which species and habitats are genuinely being left behind.
Research & Discovery
Finding what has been missed — and proving it is still there.
World’s First Live 3D Wildlife Scans
A living animal can be recorded in full 3D and released — nothing collected, nothing killed. For 300 years describing a species meant taking it. We built the world’s first scanner that ends that trade-off, with Sony Electronics.
Species (Re)Discovered
Our teams rediscover species long thought extinct. What we have found so far is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.
New Species
We have recorded 45 reptiles, amphibians and insects so unlike anything known that they appear to be new to science.
Tools & Open Resources
Built for the whole conservation community, free to use.
Ask Darwin AI
An AI research assistant built on our biodiversity corpus, helping researchers and the public explore conservation science.
Biodiversity Library
An expansive library of biodiversity reference material, free to our community of nonprofits and researchers.
Conservation Conference List
A continually updated list of wildlife and conservation conferences worldwide — one of our most-used public resources.
Supporting the Conservation Community
Helping other people do this work, too.
Altruistic Fiscal Sponsorship
We provide fiscal sponsorship to wildlife conservation nonprofits worldwide, at the lowest affiliation fees available.
Conservation Equipped
Donate used cameras, field gear, laptops and smartphones — we put them straight into the hands of conservationists who need them.
Species Protected
Species and habitats we have helped protect on the ground, through partnerships and reserve support.
